I don’t answer the phone or the door when we’re having “Family Night”. We may be a family without a Dad in the house, but we’re a family, and the kids know it! The kids are proud to have their friends over because our house is so “nice”. Also, they’ve noticed that I don’t yell like other Mommies. As a former perfectionist, I’ve……ists for each child and put it on their bedroom door. Sometimes, I just say, “check your list”! This is what our morning routine looks like: – I get up, have coffee, watch the news, then shower.

Get kids up, fix their breakfast (DH packs lunches). Kids get showered/dressed, teeth, etc. While they are getting dressed, I finish getting ready. Everyone……ut in very specific detail so they can follow each step. I can’t tell you how much decluttering has helped in this process–but then again, everyone feels the same about that.

It has set such a good example for the kids. I have really great, helpful kids, but this has increased their motivation and willingness to jump in. One key for us is that I set up their chore time to correspond to mine.

That is new, and it was kind of by……kept on giving. It was a year’s family membership to our local science center. It has given us many hours of fun, educational time together. We even had my ds’s birthday there! My favorite gift to give school age kids …. Although my children are gone now I remember very clearly homeschooling and wanted to share a thought or two.

First of all I homeschooled one son (we have 5 kids and now 5 grandkids) and did it from 7th grade to graduation. The most important thing in homeschooling is ROUTINES!!

We got up each morning knowing what had to be accomplished for the day and how we were going to……we ask more of anyone else? It has taken a year for the whole family to become involved. DH leaves at 7, home by 6; kids on the bus at 7 home by 4; I leave for work at 7: 3. We are a blended family, with his kids and my kids, so our lives are hectic and fast paced and we are often headed in different directions. Flying has become a very enjoyable addition to our routines. Before flying, I would spend all day Saturday cleaning,……rs (easy stripes, or big chunks, a few sewn- on- top patches) with curved corners; and then had several fun weeks sitting around blanket- stitching the edges with different colors of embroidery floss (variegated was fun for the kids).

My kids were in the 8- 1. Whoever has their area clear when the buzzer rings, is a winner. So far, everyone has cleared their area on time every time. Thanks for all the fun ideas!

So how can you change something that’s been a battle into something that’s suddenly fun? Enter the House Fairy The House Fairy is like having your very own in- house coach for your kids. You know how attentive your kids are when the teacher, Grandma, a neighbor or friend asks or tells them to do something? It’s because you as the primary trainer have become like an annoying email that keeps showing up……o the Zoo while it is still warm. Bring another family along!

Don’t be tempted to organize a field trip! We are going for No- Stress here.) These are valid educational activities and will score big Mom Points with your kids. First Day of School: PLAY WITH YOUR STUFF!

Let the kids organize their materials, put their names on their notebooks, decorate a cover for their 3- ring- binders, etc. Take their picture. We are ALL dressed to shoes,……#8. I put in pencils, erasers, crayons, glue sticks, and a few other things my kids (a 1st- grader and a 3rd- grader) would need regularly for their homework. I stored the “homework box”in the kitchen because my kids did their homework at the kitchen table. I made it clear to my kids that they would have to do their homework before going out to play.

They would come in from the bus, have a snack, get out the homework box and get to……school with a mandatory lunch program, sign up for a gluten- free option if one is available. Don’t worry too much about kids getting into junk food when at a friend’s house for a birthday party or a sleepover. Kids have to be kids!

They’ll figure it out as they get older which way they want to go, trust me on this; it worked for me! If you’ve been thinking about getting more healthy food into your life, you must check……2.

My tip – I try to schedule as many extra- curricular activities (dance, gymnastics, piano lessons, etc.) for the same day of each week (in my case Tuesday) and set that as my errand day. As I am shuttling kids back and forth, I do my errands as well. I work full time, but made and agreement with my employer to leave the office early 2 days a week to allow my kids to take part in these activities. I make up the time working at……eady for bed by taking forever to pick out their clothes for the next day! I fill slots for the younger two (2 yr old and 6 wk old) myself, whenever I finish a load of their laundry, etc. This is our best flying with kids tip ever!!!

Let them wear their clothes (no bathing suits), get out the umbrellas and see who can stay dry the longest. There are so many clever sprinkler toys for kids on the market today. Spend some time (as one of your summer activities) shopping for a sprinkler that turns watering into fun. It’s also fun for kids to shower in the sprinkler. Give them soap and shampoo and let them……ive.

We went for a nature hike with the kids instead on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. What a bonus! Thanks, Fly. Lady! Free Workshops I live in TX, and the local Home Depot and Lowe’s Home Improvement stores offer free kids workshops one Saturday per month.

The kids each get a kit to build with mom or dad’s help. The stores provide workspace, safety goggles, and tools, as well as store personnel to help those parents who may be……know what is going on in everyone’s life and I always keep a stash of homemade treats. I work full time but these years go by quickly and I don’t mind staying up late to bake or cook if it means more time with my kids.

Secondly, I hate sports but two of my kids love them. I have sunburn, windburn, chapped lips, cheeks, and bums but I go to all their sporting events.

They love the support I give them and I like meeting their friends……people about how much you’ve helped me. For over 2. 0 year My DH has been giving “Cashew halves” in 9 oz. When we were married (1.
